Maryland State Senator, EJ Pipkin
Senator E.J. Pipkin is one of Maryland General Assembly’s distinguished members. A well-known leader in vital Maryland issues such as energy, the environment, fiscal responsibility, and government accountability, Senator Pipkin has earned the respect from both sides of the aisle as a consensus-building, independent thinker who works for what is best for the State of Maryland.
Prior to his entrance to public life, Senator Pipkin worked in the business finance field. He went back to his home state of Maryland, where he founded Citizens Against Open Bay Dumping, a citizen environmental group that successfully worked to ban irresponsible dumping of dredge spoils into the Chesapeake Bay.
In 2002, Senator Pipkin defeated Senator Walter M. Banker, a veteran of the Senate and the powerful chairman of the Judicial Proceedings Committee. Senator Pipkin proved skeptics wrong when the 36th district elected him to be their voice in the Senate. He was re-elected in 2006 with 63.7% of the vote. Senator Pipkin was a 2004 candidate for the U.S. Senate and was a candidate in the 2008 Republican primary for Maryland’s 1st congressional district.
Today, Senator Pipkin represents the 36th district of Maryland including Caroline, Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s Counties. He serves on the Finance Committee, and the Joint Committee on Welfare Reform.
